Concept:

No Condensation Lid and Top Entrance for a Beehive

Condensation is often a problem in Beehives during winter. With warm moist air rising in the hive and then condensing on the ceiling of the cold roof. This causes mold to form and other problems in the hive. Honey Bees can cope with very cold conditions, but if it is cold AND wet it can end up being disastrous.

Premises:

  • Condensation forms mainly on the ceiling of the hive when hot moist air from the clustered bees touches the cold ceiling of the hive.
  • Condensation forms water droplets that will run down a slope.
  • A top entrance means the entrance does not get blocked by grass/plants growing in front of it, or blocked by snow in winter.
  • Hot air rises, cold air sinks.
